About the self-titled ep, released 2007 02/12/2011
![]() I teamed up with Nathan Finochio and Ken Vandevrie (Ads Media, Hamilton) to produce 5 songs for a shorter project. I stepped up the musical excellence on this project, finding that two years of performing solo and with a band had changed my perspective on musical quality. We tried to showcase a variety of styles since my songwriting had blossomed as I dabbled in new genres like jazz and blues, I had more fun writing than I ever had before! These few songs capture a taste of where I was musically in 2007. I released the CD without much fanfare, and began selling them at my local shows. The lyrics for all 5 tunes: Holding Life Loosely | Laid back holding life loosely / Nothing’s really mine to keep / So I don’t mind sleeping under stars / I’m waiting for the day and sunshine / But even if it’s not bright / I’ll be holding onto life loosely / Holding life loosely |I used to fill my days so tightly / Count the time precisely / Relaxation’s my new state of mind / It’s time now to breathe and learn how / To face the running crowd / While holding onto life loosely / Holding life loosely |Everybody tells me / Work your way up to the top / Everybody’s chasin’ dreams / They won’t ever stop / But I like to time to be / Space to see / I like holding onto life loosely, loosely / Listen to this song here on YouTube or here on myspace. Child Sleeping / Prayers like groans are breathed within / My surrender now begins / In Your righteous place, in Your righteous place / The Spirit meets my sin |I am like a child sleeping / In Christ’s arms / Where there’s no weeping / I am carried here / To a God-inspired rest | A holy God has seen my days / With His quiet gentle ways / He wraps my wounds, He wraps my wounds / And shows me how to pray | Listen to this song on myspace. Time Is Leaving | too young to throw away life dreams / too old to begin it all again / my past isn't what it seems / can't hold the future in these hands | i'm spinning on a spinning wheel / one turn on an axis made for dust / one day one more sun is gone / another life rotting into rust | chorus: / my time is leaving / but i'm still wondering where to go / my life it goes on living / but i've got nothing left to show | spend some time with me again / time with me again / time with me again / time, precious time | the seasons come the seasons go / the harvest grows the fruit turns ripe / feels like i'm buried in the snow / rosy skin is turning white | but i see you singing in the trees / hear you laughing in the open fields / everything around you moves and breathes / you make me want to live and feel | Listen to this song on myspace. Lullaby | All the little angels, all the little boys and girls / All the world’s asleep and dreaming tonight / Look at all the stars in the sky / Look at how the moon is bright / Listen while I sing you tonight a lullaby | Be still, my girls / I’ll pray for you as the shadows come / Don’t fear the night, I’m with you / Find rest, find peace / I’ll stay and watch you fall asleep / As I sing a lullaby | How I love your smiles, how I love your simple songs / And your childlike faith daughters of mine / Listen as I sing you a prayer / Listen for His words in the air / The notes are playing everywhere, your lullaby | Listen to this song on YouTube. Blue Like Jazz | Just like our music / We’re opposite styles / You love the classics / I love to run wild / I’ve been fighting / Your intricate ways / Coz when I’ve got the blues / I want to sing it my way | I’m Blue like jazz / But you’re green with envy / None of your smiles / Seem like apology / You’re burning inside / But I feel like ice / Cause baby you’re making me / Blue like jazz / You’ve got a metronome / Inside your head / You’re walking andante / But I’ll dance instead / You have been preaching / Your ideas on me / Just give me some jazz / Coz I want to be free | We’re just two friends / Trying to find our own ways / Always contradicting / We got something to say / You got your music / And I got mine / Now leave me some space / A little rhythm and rhyme / Listen to this on YouTube or on myspace.
