My UK Resolution: one song a week..... 08/20/2011
I have kept many journals over the years. Somewhere along the line, I started to make an effort to write poetry and lyric ideas as they came to me, and that transitioned into more songwriting. Sometimes, songs come in a moment, like "This Is My Letter," other times, they arise out of much writing refinement. That's why journals are a great to reflect through; often 'song nuggets' are in there. Knowing how useful this practice can be, I've made a UK resolution. I've set a goal for myself: write one song a week while in the UK. This is a lofty goal, I know, but with discipline, it can be done. Thus, yesterday's purchase: 12 journals and $68 later, I have put action to my resolution. See below for photos of my old journals and my new Chapters purchase — Moleskine journals! Yes, I'll be busy doing school work and other church stuff while at the Abundant Life Church Leadership Academy — I'm sure I'll be working on songwriting since I'm taking the Worship and Creative Arts elective. But, I've long felt that 'dry spell' of songwriting due to lack of discipline. Now is the time to reverse that trend! On Saturday, January 18, 2003, I was finessing "You Have Searched Me," a song that was recorded on my first album "Looking for Sanctuary".
